Eight minutes along the Dommel. A museum afternoon and a plate of ceviche go together better than you would think.

The Van Abbemuseum sits on Bilderdijklaan, on the water, and holds one of the better modern and contemporary collections in the Netherlands. An afternoon there is a proper afternoon — most people come out later than they meant to.

After the museum

Eight minutes on foot brings you into the old centre and onto Kerkstraat. We open at five, so a late-afternoon visit lands neatly on an early dinner.

Worth knowing

The museum is closed on Mondays. So, usually, are we — check the week on the site, because the schedule moves with the season.
